Helping Hands at CSI
Central States Industrial’s (CSI’s) Charitable Events Committee coordinated a fundraiser to raise money for Rare Breed Youth Services, an organization that provides assistance to homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth.
Everyone at CSI worked together to raise $865.17.
Employees then purchased and delivered deodorant, body wash, shampoo, toothpaste, underwear, socks, bras, blankets, bottled water, and sleeping bags.
Rare Breed had been out of deodorant and body wash before the supplies were dropped off. The founder of CSI’s Charitable Events Committee, Elaine Roggow, said it was awesome to have been able to supply the right necessities at the right time.
“I think anybody who gets involved in something where they give back, it always blesses them as least as much as the person or people they’re helping,” Elaine said.
Elaine started the committee as a way to direct her focus outward.
She explained that we often have a bubble around us, where our own worries and problems are at the forefront of our mind. Giving back is a way to expand our view outside of our own concerns to also include those who need assistance.
Elaine said, “Our world today teaches us to look out for number one, take care of yourself, and not inconvenience yourself. If somebody is hard to deal with, you just dismiss them. I think that’s so opposite of what our world needs. It’s really important [to give back], and I’m thankful that our company supports that and lets us be involved with things like this.”
Why Rare Breed?
Elaine said one of her goals is to give exposure to local organizations that need volunteers or donations. Elaine’s hope is that as CSI employees continue to volunteer, it will spark a ripple effect throughout the community.
